Catalogue of Authors of Scientific Resources

The central authority file of persons maintained by the National Documentation Centre (EKT). It includes more than 80,000 individuals and is used by EKT’s scientific content infrastructures, such as the National Archive of PhD Theses, EKT ePublishing, the AK E Index, and the EKT institutional repository “Ariadne”, among others. The authority file has been developed entirely by EKT staff through the use of numerous semi-automated processes for enrichment, correction, merging, and data consolidation. The vocabulary resources have been enriched with a wide range of international identifiers (e.g. Scopus, Google Scholar, VIAF, ResearchGate), as well as links to relevant webpages about the individual (e.g. Wikipedia, BIBLIONET, Academia) and additional contextual information.

Notable Persons in Greek History and Culture

A vocabulary of approximately 10.000 names of historical figures and influential persons from across Greek history and culture conforming to the edm:Agent class of Europena’s EDM. The vocabulary is used to enrich SearchCulture.gr items with creators or persons they are related to.

Corporate Bodies

The "Corporate Bodies" vocabulary was developed by the National Documentation (EKT) to support the increased documentation needs of the content collected in its repository infrastructures. It is a bilingual, hierarchical vocabulary that aims to document and link current and past corporate body / organization names. The schema of the vocabulary is based on the madsrdf standard and in addition to the basic description elements (proposed name, identifying data, address elements, notes, related web pages) contains current hierarchical relationships (is part of, consists of) and past (was part of , consisted of). At the same time, it supports a series of historical relationships that describe the evolution of organizations over time (earlier and later name, merged with another entity and resulted in, resulted from the merge of, split into, resulted from the split of, absorbed, absorbed by). The vocabulary is constantly updated and enriched with additional terms in the context of its use.

EKT Subjects across Scientific Desciplines

The vocabulary «EKT Subjects across Scientific Disciplines» is developed by National Documentation Centre (EKT), using “up to date technologies”, in compliance with current developments in metadata standards, semantic web principles and interoperability terms. The vocabulary comprises 453 unique bilingual subject terms covering the main areas of Science, Technology & Development. The terms are classified by hierarchical relationships (broader / narrower) while semantic link relations to external open resources, are attributed. The enrichment with new terms and links is ongoing.

Vocabulary of geographical names Geonames (EKT version)

The Geonames Vocabulary (EKT Edition) is a collection of geographic terms curated by the EKT, a subset of the Geonames geographic database. It is hierarchical based on the administrative organization of each country, and each term includes alternative names and coordinates. It is primarily used to enrich the content aggregated in the SearchCulture.gr National Digital Cultural Content Aggregator. The vocabulary is continously updated and enriched with additional terms on its application.

Supplementary vocabulary of Geonames (EKT version)

The Supplementary vocabulary of Geonames (EKT version) is a collection of geographical terms curated by the EKT, a subset of the Geoname geographic database. The terms of this vocabulary were not included in the main vocabulary (Geonames Vocabulary (EKT Edition) https://www.semantics.gr/authorities/admin/vocabularies/geonames-places-earth/vocabulary-entries?language=en) as they are areas that occupy more than one administrative region (eg rivers that cross two countries, unions of states, historical areas, etc.). It is primarily used to enrich the content aggregated in the SearchCulture.gr National Digital Cultural Content Aggregator. The vocabulary is continously updated and enriched with additional terms on its application. All terms have been linked to the Geonames Vocabulary (ECT edition). The Thesaurus of General Greek Terms (with terms also provided in English) was published by the National Documentation Centre (EKT) and serves as a tool for documentation, indexing, and information retrieval. It is a structured and curated vocabulary that clearly presents both hierarchical (vertical) and associative (horizontal) relationships between concepts, thereby supporting users in retrieving more comprehensive and relevant results. The thesaurus enables users searching for a concept to identify related terms with broader, narrower, equivalent, or otherwise associated meanings. In this way, it enhances conceptual understanding and reduces the number of separate searches required within a database.
